I have painted each child who has been in our foster care. It’s my way of expressing to them that they matter and that their image is preserved.

Chloe is one of our long-term foster children. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) means that many children in care are not allowed to be photographed or have their images shared on social media. While I understand that the child’s safety is of the utmost importance, this restriction can be a constant reminder for the child of their difference and the reality of being in care. They also benefit from being seen, noticed, and acknowledged.
