Mexican Folk Art inspired paintings
Whilst holidaying Mexico I fell in love with Mexican Folk Art, especially the depiction of animals.
When I was an art student, humour and prettiness were ideas that were knocked out of our thinking. I heard words like twee or obvious used to describe work that I had liked. In some ways, going to art school made me self-conscious. It made me aware that I was not like many of my fellow students, who were from educated, middle-class backgrounds. But this only made me more determined to succeed. I did succeed, and I have enjoyed a life of creativity.
Whilst we holidayed in Mexico I fell in love with Mexican Folk Art, especially the depiction of animals. I created a series of birds that made me smile.
